“People don’t want a quarter-inch drill, they want a quarter-inch hole.”
This week’s quote comes from a Beyond blog post, that uses this quote from Theodore Levitt to discusses their approach to lean research and the ability to rapidly deliver value.
Yes, I agree with the approach and believe as strategists, marketers, etc. that it’s important to get to the root of our client’s needs. This can come from asking questions, research, and in a lot of cases just using common sense. I like to think that as a strategist I provide solutions that last. Solutions that are not, to borrow the lyrics from a song, “putting a band-aid on a bullet hole.” This is only possible by identifying the true problem (or Job). Once this is identified we can provide a true solution (or “hire”) that can stand the test of time.
Product companies invest in their strategy to ensure they are providing value both now and in the future. It’s part of the reason I see real value in all organizations having a digital strategist. If you haven’t read my post about this already, you can find it here.
