“If you cannot come up with a solution, you come up with an excuse.”

I heard this week’s quote in a YouTube video from Steve Edwards, the President, and CEO of Edward’s Educational Services. The video is a bit dated, but the message is one that rings true today.

I put the video on to learn more about Edward’s Educational Services as an organization. The quote stands for itself, so I do not think I need to do a lot of explanation about it. Mr. Edwards uses the quote to refer to the mindset many people have when they see someone succeed, but don’t understand how, or feel left behind.

When people ask what I do at my job, I often say, ” I solve problems.” Maybe that’s why this quote stuck with me. I strive to find solutions. Sometimes that means accepting difficult facts. Sometimes that means putting in more time, doing more research, getting outside help, etc. Other times that means taking a step back and looking at what is really happening.

Excuses are the roadblocks to success. This quote captures that belief. We should not look for excuses, but instead look for reasons and then solutions. Here’s to solving problems and forgetting excuses.
