“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do it nothing.”

Every year my wife and my brother-in-law give each other a book for Christmas. The books then make the way around our family eventually finding a place on a shelf in one of our apartments. This week quote is from one of those books, “Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and Into Your life” by Gary John Bishop.

I took a day off of work this week for my sanity (a mental health day if you will). It was nice to have some time to do what I wanted and sent me back to work the next day ready to go. Maybe it’s because I read “Unfu*k Yourself” on my day off.

The book is full of memorable quotes and strategies for taking control of your life. It uses quotes from great thinkers and combines them with those of Gary John Bishop. Of course, the quotes that stood out to me the most were from Teddy Roosevelt (my favorite president).

This particular quote stuck with me for a few reasons. We often find ourselves in positions where we’re afraid to make the wrong decision and end up making no decisions. This happens at an organizational level as well as a personal level. It’s true in the digital and the physical space. Think about it, the world is constantly moving. If we aren’t nimble or flexible it’s easy to get left behind.

I couple this quote with another one, “There will always be a reason not to do something. The challenge is to find the reason to do it.” I guess my advice is simple. Keep moving. Don’t get left behind. And read “Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and into Your Life” by Gary John Bishop.
