“When it comes to buying, we make emotional decisions and rational justifications.”

This week’s quote comes from an article I read in CXL about influencing customers.

This quote’s interesting. I often refer to users making knee-jerk decisions, which is essentially an emotional decision. Then we justify our actions with rational thoughts. This is important when thinking about what we do to influence users.

People are emotional, it’s human nature. Sometimes we’re quick to act, especially in today’s world where information is everywhere. Think about the time we used to have to process things before we were expected to weigh in on them.

My wife and I often discuss this. When tryouts had a day and time that the list of people who made the squad were posted. If you made it you were excited and if not, you had time to yourself driving home to think about it. Maybe everyone would know the next day, but you had time to process and tell your closest friends and family. Now that list is emailed to everyone and within seconds it’s on social media.

Here’s to emotional decisions and the justifications we create after the fact.
